Headbands: What They Are, Their History, and What Are the Fashionable Headbands of 2011?

There are so many different types of hair accessories out there, that it's difficult to keep them straight. The history of the headband, the popular styles of headbands and how to choose which one to wear are the three topics that will be covered to make understanding and choosing your hair accessory easier.

What is a headband? Classical headbands are comprised of a thin band of plastic or metal that is shaped like a horse shoe. This odd shape is like that for a reason. It goes over the head, pulling the hair back in place over the ears to rest on top of the hair. Headbands are therefore a very useful hair accessory that has gone back as far as anyone can remember.

In ancient times, Greco and Romans used headbands during special occasions like festivals, the Olympics, and funeral games. Except then, it was known as a wreath. As time went on, these wreaths were decorated with jewels and flowers, and thus the current headband is born.

Now that you know a little about the headband, lets look at the headbands of 2011.

Well, I can definitely say that seeing someone wearing a wreath anymore border lines on the unusual. One of the biggest transitions of headbands, are that they have evolved from a formal piece of clothing to a simple everyday fashion accessory. No longer is there one style of headband, but there are thousands. Headbands come in a variety of forms. The most popular today include crochet headbands, nylon, elastic, and plastic headbands.

So how do you choose the right headband for you? There really aren't a ton of formal rules when it comes down to it. You can wear what you like, but here are some helpful tips.

Headbands have evolved as a great fashion accessory and have regained popularity recently; simply match your headband to your outfit by color, material, or texture. Put a ready make flower on a headband to make it a specialty headband that no one else will own! Or wear a crochet head wrap to keep out of control locks in place while you still make a fashion statement.

And in 2011, headbands have been a hot item for babies and toddlers. Why? They're soft, durable, and stylish. Simply put a crochet headband on your baby, attach a flower clip to the headband, and your baby will be the belle of the ball. Now your baby can be comfortable, stylish, and warm all at the same time.

So you see headbands have certainly come a long way. For more uses of the headband, pictures, and pricing information visit http://www.thehairbowcompany.com for more informative articles.
